Planning Your Wedding During Covid
/Wedding planning is always a challenge, but I think planning in the Time of Covid provides a set of unique special challenges.
Buy Wedding Insurance
I am not a big believer in insurance. I have been let down many times thinking I was covered when in fact there was a loophole (hello Hurricane Katrina). In fact, for brides affected by Covid early on (in March and April), their wedding insurance did not cover them for the pandemic. But it has adapted, as we all have, and it will address many issues - damage to the venue, injury to a guest, covering a deposit for a bankrupt vendor. I think it remains a worthwhile investment. You can get it thru your homeowners insurance or at WedSafe.
What is your Deal-Breaker?
What are the things that will make you want to reschedule the wedding? This is a great conversation for you and your fiancee, and maybe your parents. Will you get married if guests have to be masked? If you can’t have live music? If the size of the party is limited? Have a candid talk about what your wedding needs to look like to move forward, and then choose a date (I recommend 60 days prior to the wedding) as a decision making date.
Continue to be Flexible.
Four months of Covid has taught me to be patient. Pick your date, plan your wedding, and then sixty days out, plan to reassess. It is easy for me to pick something to worry about (I am an exceptional worrier) but if I give myself a deadline or decision making date, I can lay my worries down until it is time to decide. This situation is fluid and you need to be as well.
Choose Vendors Wisely.
Find vendor’s that are thinking like you. What if you have to reschedule? What if you cancel? What are their policies? Read the contracts. Ask them about their Covid policies. Are they wearing masks? What precautions are they taking on site to protect their staff, and your guests?
We will Survive and Flourish!
There are many wedding professionals and venues that will not survive Covid. I don’t plan to be one of them! I survived Katrina - both personally and professionally, and we were well prepared to face another hurricane - this one just came in another shape. We are working hard here to continue to service our clients, to keep our overhead down, and remain creative and optimistic.
