FAT CAT WEDDING: Kameron and Jessica

One of the things I love about being a florist is getting a birds-eye view into relationships.  Every couple is different, and their reaction to wedding planning and/or stress is very personal.  Lots of times I see this with a mother and daughter, but I love to see the way couples work together.

I especially love to do weddings for people I know.  I have done weddings for people in the industry - always very flattering!  Weddings for friends, but by far my favorite is to do weddings for family.  My family is not huge, and so there has only been one per year, so it has worked out.

My first was for my beautiful niece Jacky - now the mother of two beautiful girls.  She got married at Holy Name and the Orleans Club.  She may have been my most hands-off bride of all time!  She knew what she wanted for colors and that was it.  Do your thing!

Jacky's colors of soft yellow on a teal dress are stunning!

I love Jacky’s colors - the soft yellows of the creme dela creme rose and the crisp whites on the teal really stand the test of time!

My second was for my darling niece Ashleigh.  Ashleigh is a teacher and it showed!  She was organized and thoughtful and had a vision, but really wanted my design input. We loved her wedding, and coined a new phrase - Ashleigh hot - for those 90 degree full sun days in the south.  I am pretty sure I had a heat stroke at Ashleigh’s wedding. Ashleigh and Andy now have a beautiful daughter Teagan, and another on the way.

Michelle is Jacky’s sister and they could not be more different!  Jacky is traditional, Michelle is a little more hip and edgy.  And gorgeous! Her wedding dress may be my favorite of all time, I know her father-daughter dance was.  She and Jimmy had a fab wedding at the Ace Hotel, and just welcomed their first daughter.

Last January my son Christopher was married in a tiny courthouse ceremony. Just a little covid wedding. When he called to say they were getting married at the courthouse I have to admit I pouted for a minute. Then I made a bouquet and bout and a centerpiece for the table and Tom and I got in the car. It was super sweet and simple, but they totally owe me a wedding!

This summer I had the pleasure of doing the wedding of my nephew Kameron and his lovely bride Jessica. They popped over to New Orleans to plan their wedding and see my warehouse full of things.  It was such a treat to get to know Kameron as an adult - I was still thinking of him as a teenager!  And his wife Jessica is a doll, they are a perfect match.

I only travel for family, mind you, and this was quite the trip. We  headed to the mountains of the Nantahala National Forest to a venue they definitely don’t have in New Orleans!  I was not sure I would survive the drive - twisted roads with no shoulder through forest that never ended!  I loved working in a totally new environment - on top of a mountain overlooking a lake!  And a lovely outdoor pavilion that was peaceful and gorgeous - at least until the music started! A lovely venue, a wonderful photographer and a perfect day.

Alexa and Kevin were engaged over the holiday. I can’t wait to see what they have in store - do you think I’ll be invited?
